Little Things

I had a business meeting yesterday and after we finished our business we all started talking about life.  The consensus in the room was that people are angry.  There's a general grumpy feeling with our clients and customers and we couldn't quite figure out why.  Whether it's the politics or the change in weather, I've noticed it in myself, as well.

It's so hard being on a budget and reminding myself that "a penny saved is a penny earned" and that every dollar I save is a dollar closer to buying the house of our dreams.  It's hard being a mother to an independent little spit-fire of a boy who has mastered the art of the tantrum.  And, it's hard knowing that Dan will be leaving on tour again soon.  But, there is always joy in the midst of trials.  There's always something that gives me hope.  I need to remember to be thankful for the little things and I'm thankful to Lindsay at Hello Hue for inspiring me to pause and reflect on the good things, even if they are little.

I am thankful for friends, my husband included, who are always ready for an adventure.  Who can take a rainy, nasty afternoon and make it wonderful.  Who aren't afraid to venture out into the unknown and find pretty things to photograph.  Because, honestly, I really just wanted to stay inside and I'm glad we didn't.

I'm thankful for my mom who willingly and joyfully will watch BB while Dan and I visit Nashville.  It's so comforting to know he will be in good hands.  (Also, I'm thankful for this trip, short as it may be, to visit my sister and finally see this city that everyone's talking so much about!)

I'm thankful for BB's developmental progress.  He's almost walking and he's trying to talk.  He has a strong personality - he's full of love, and other emotions - and even when it's really hard to know how to be a parent in the midst of a meltdown, I am still thankful that he is with us and that he is who is!

  5. I felt the same way this week! Just grouchy and really short on patience. There must be something in the water! Being on a budget is definitely hard, but I can vouch that it totally works. It took us quite a bit of time to get going and actually stick to it (which we totally did horrible at this last month), but it does get easier with time, especially when you have a goal! You can do it! It's so worth it! :)

  6. Just found your blog through Hello Hue and am glad I did! Yes, it's so hard to live on a budget, but I've found the rewards of living with less (or just living more thoughtfully when you can't just buy) to be great. Savoring the little moments helps me too!
