I need some ideas. What are we supposed to do with this active, curious kid all winter long? It rains here - A LOT - and, in about a week, Daylight Savings Time will bring about a 5pm sunset, thus (probably) ending our evening walks through the neighborhood. The children's museum has a "pay as you will" program which means they appreciate any donation you can give them. So, we would like to add that to our routine and visit it weekly. What else? Any more ideas?
We can only build so many block towers. Please help!
Go outside anyway! Or get an indoor pet? Fortunately Simon is still entertained by just gazing at my face, otherwise we'd be in the same boat!
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas!! Thanks, Michelle!
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas, Tracy! Thanks!

ReplyDeleteGood to know! THank you!!!
ReplyDeleteVery cool! Thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteI love this site for crafty ideas, especially since you can sort by age: http://www.theimaginationtree.com I had no idea that my son would be as interested in his "bean farm" as he is (idea adapted from the link above), but from about 8 months and even now at 21 months, he still loves it. I bought bags of different kinds/colored dried beans, plopped them into a sturdy shoebox and added some small measuring cups and he sits down with it to play and loves it. The sensory baskets are also great and easy to assemble. You could also make a sand/water table when he gets a bit older. Let us know what you find that BB loves!
ReplyDeleteHere's a fun idea too!

This one is for a bit older boys but with some modifications it could be helpful :)

I don't have any suggestions (sorry! :() but I must say that bow-tie melted my heart.
ReplyDeleteMy son has always been on the go (has way too much energy) since day one, so we can totally relate :) The libraries have story times, also have fun kid areas. Do you still belong to the YMCA? They have a great toddler drop in gym at the Morgan Y, you'd have to check the dates and exact times, at that Y they also have a family friendly track above the gymnastics room that you can let the little guy run wild that is usually empty :) They also have the indoor play places that cost some money to go in; in U.P. has Frog n kiwi and odysessy 1, gig harbor has jump and discovery village. And we sometimes will buy a small snack at Mcdonalds and play in their toys(FYI the one on 38th st by the mall is disgusting!). Inside the Tacoma Nature Center. Play to Learns are free and fun https://www.playtacoma.org/play-to-learn
ReplyDeleteUggg....I hate the winter because of all the dark hours stuck inside with kids. We've gotten into crafts, (which I get most of my ideas from the disney family website), we make forts, water "tables" where you fill a bucket or dish with water and bubbles and put toys in it on the floor with towels around. We do lots of coffee/play dates and swimming. Library. Kids music time with dishes and wooden spoons for drumming on, puzzles, and if all else fails, then try to put your toys on a rotation where you bring some out for a week, then switch them with other toys and it keeps the kids interested a little longer. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteSensory boxes would be great. Beans or Rice (you could even dye it to make it more interesting) with scoops and spoons and trucks and bowls. At this time I also started art stuff with Abby. I would cut up paper and she'd point and tell me where to glue things. I'd put glue down and she would put the paper or pom poms or googly eyes on it. If you have some hard floors, we tended to bring in riding toys. Play kitchen/food stuff could be fun too and you could play up eating veggies. I know it's along the same line of blocks, but if you get giant leggos BB would have so much fun! Abby still plays with hers. You could make playdough (that way if...well really...when he tries to eat it it's all edible products...so many recipes online) and use cookie cutters. Also, check out my Pinterest board for Abby...the latest items are preschool oriented, but I bed you could find some stuff for BB http://pinterest.com/wa_tracy/fun-things-for-abby/
ReplyDeleteHey Lindsy, we can totally relate! We spend a lot of mornings at the children's museum too. Our mall also has a great play area for little guys, which is great, because we can get some exercise too by throwing them in the stroller. Libraries are always great. You can even explore a bunch of libraries in your area to find one with a great kids area and story time. Our libraries have passes you can check out to go to places like the children's museum for free. You could see if yours have anything like that. Play dates, or really any change of scenery help get the wiggles out of our kids. And if all else fails, sometimes you just need to get a little muddy. :) Happy rainy season!
